Adoption is something that I believe strongly in, and, if i ever do decide to have children, it will be through adoption. I'd like to share this possibility with the world, and hopefully it will become a more popular thing to do. We've all heard about the celebrities (Angelina, Madonna, etc.) who have adopted multiple children. I'm not really sure where my opinions lie on this matter. On the one hand, I completely support adoption, especially from other countries. I'm pretty sure that Angelina had her biological children through cesarean section, which isn’t exactly pleasant, so it’s cool that she can adopt. I don’t know much about Madonna, but I’m happy that they actively support adoption. It would be great if their fame lets other people know about the option, and causes them to do it as well. But, on the other hand, I think it gives them a little too much attention. It’s not good for any children, adopted or not.
It reminds me of the issues with the “Octomom”, or Jon and Kate plus eight, the TV show. They’re using their kids for fame and publicity, which is terrible for the children and for them. Octomom (I don’t know her real name) doesn’t seem perfectly sane to me. I mean, who on earth would want eight children? And all at the same time? All of those children are underweight, and are probably malnourished from having to share all that space in the womb. As for Kate, after her and Jon’s divorce, she’s been cruel to her children and using them to make even more money.
I don’t know if Angelina and Madonna are using their children for money or not. If they just want to have a big, happy family, that’s really great. But If they are, then, if you ask me, they’re the worst kind of person. Its child abuse in my eyes, and it shouldn’t be allowed.

Is Angelina just going around collecting kids from every continent like she's trying to get the whole set, or something? It really really freaks me out. And then to keep starring in movies and running around with the UN and stuff? A full career-load with all those kids? I have to suspect that nannies are doing all the heavy lifting. It's not my place to judge, I'm just sayin'...something doesn't add up. Best wishes to all of 'em, right?
ReplyDeleteMadonna has gone back and done some investing in Malawi, the country her adopted son is from. Yeah, yeah, maybe it's a celebrity vanity project. I'm always quick to make that cynical assumption. But maybe if you're that rich, the last thing you can figure out what to do with your money is to give it away effectively. She went through hell in the Malawian courts to get that kid...she kinda had to WANT it. (And as my wife points out, you never hear those stories about Angelina's adoption missions. How does she just swoop in and out of these countries like an eagle swooping down to pick up a field mouse?)
As you can see, I've put some thought into this issue. ;^)
